Nestor Carbonell murders Matthew Fox (from the 2006 film Smokin’ Aces)

Cast Trivia - Nestor Carbonell
First of, no, he doesn’t were eyeliner…or eye makeup of any kind. In fact, the Lost makeup artists used concealer to tone down the natural darkness of his eyes. As a child, he was teased and bullied quite a bit because of it. At age five, he even tried to cut his eyelashes off, before his mom caught him. He’s no longer self-conscious of it though.
He was born in NYC, and is of Cuban and Spanish descent. He lived in over a dozen places, including: Mexico, Venezuela, Florida, Connecticut, The Bahamas and London - all before college.
He attended Harvard University, where he first began acting and graduated with a B.A. in English.
He auditioned to appear in just one episode of Lost, as a mysterious man recruiting Juliet. After filming wrapped, he heard about six weeks later that they wanted him back. He figured it was another flashback, and was very excited when he learned that he’d be on the island.
During the production of Lost’s last few season 3 episodes, Nestor was cast in a starring role on the new CBS show Cane. The Lost writers modified their original story plan for the season in anticipation of his unavailability. Despite Nestor’s willingness to still make a Lost appearance, CBS’ president wouldn’t allow it. But once Cane was canceled during the 2007-2008 writers’ strike, Nestor was freed from his CBS contract and appeared in season 4.
He met his wife, actress Shannon Kenny, on the set of the 2000 film Attention Shoppers. The married in January 2001 in Sydney, Australia.
He has two sons, named Rafaell and Marco, born in 2002 and 2005.
He’s fluent in Spanish, as demonstrated in Ab Aeterno.
His character in the 2006 film Smokin’ Aces is the only one who interacts with Matthew Fox’s character. Nestor kills him.
He was in the 2002 film The Laramie Project with Michael Emerson and Jeremy Davies.
He and his family didn’t move to Hawaii until the filming of the final Lost season.
Ab Aeterno was his first time acting extensively in Spanish, and he was extremely excited by the challenge. He did some research on the Canary Islands beforehand, in order to perfect the accent.
Quotes:
"I always felt from the beginning when I recruited Juliet that even in that episode, I wanted to play against being sinister or having some sort of hidden agenda — even though I end up killing her ex-husband. I knew that I had to play him as genuinely as possible, and I wondered, ‘Maybe he’s genuine because he truly is genuine. Maybe there’s some greater reason why he has to get her to this island, even though he has to commit murder in the process.’ Even if the guy ends up being evil, you still have to be your own defense attorney in terms of defending your character. I always justified everything I did, even having Ben gas the Dharma Initiative.”
(on Richard’s backstory finally being revealed) “I didn’t even tell my wife. Oh, my wife. Typically she doesn’t want to know, but this time she kind of wanted to know a little ahead of time. But I said, ‘You know what? You’ve waited this long, just wait until it airs.’ She knew I was wearing a wig and I’d let my beard grow. And, G-d knows, she and the kids had to deal with my beard for three weeks.”
(on his favorite island time-period) “I think I was digging the vibe of the seventies when I tapped Ben. I was digging those groovy years. The loose clothing and the long hair — those were some fun times.”
"A lot of the crew felt really sorry for me when Mark Pellegrino was slamming me in the water. But I have to tell you, after being in the Black Rock for five days straight, I really welcomed that bath in the ocean tremendously."
"I had a commercial agent, and they sent me out for some print commercial stuff. And they called me into the office and said, ‘Look, we called you in to talk to you because we just want you to know that…well, we don’t think you need to wear eyeliner.’ And I’m, like, 'What?' 'Yeah, it’s okay, you don’t have to wear it for print ads.' 'No, I’m not wearing eyeliner!’ And I kept dabbing my eyes and saying, ‘Look! No eyeliner! I’m not wearing any!’ And, finally, they started laughing.”

Interviewer: Just out of curiosity, where do you guys fall on the Jack & Kate or Kate & Sawyer thing?
Michael Emerson: I think that Kate should find another man altogether, I really do. There’s just so much baggage now, it’s not a healthy triangle, I don’t think. It would be better if someone had the nerve to bust out. It’s a large world, there’s a lot of nice people out there.
Jorge Garcia: Have Kate go ruin someone else’s life.
Nestor Carbonell: I’d be happy if Kate ruined Richard’s life…

They did ask me to grow a beard for two-and-a-half weeks, so I just thought really hard and I just held my breath…and suddenly it grew.
